“I think the best way to put it is that we hope that we will be able to increase their capacity to dream and be innovative about creating the future they want for themselves.”
“Unfortunately, a lot of former foster youth have a very pessimistic or jaded view of their futures because they believe that all the events of their past have prevented them from being able to access certain levels of success.
Especially here in the Bay Area, it’s really unfortunate there are so many opportunities for them to access that they feel are just not meant for them, and so we really want to open up that capacity for them to dream and imagine what their futures could look like.”
“We are also trying to prevents systems crossover.”
“We already know that there is a huge percentage of former foster youth that end up being involved in the juvenile and adult justice system, being wrapped up in homelessness, and being unhoused for long extensive time and not getting the support that they need to address challenges around their mental health.
We are trying to prevent the challenges that come with them not being supported for long periods of time and then being put in a place where it becomes more challenging for them to become self sufficient”
